Why Google My Business is Important for Lawyers

Google My Business is an excellent way for attorneys to positively impact the digital marketing footprint of their law firm.

Google My Business is a free business listing provided by Google. It’s already significantly compelling since its free and its powered by Google. Anything free and powered by Google is something you should be leveraging for law firm’s online digital marketing.

Google My Business Appears in Three Highly Visible Places:

Google Knowledge Graph

The Google Knowledge Graph is the business information appearing on the right column of the results when the business name is searched. Here is an example of the Google Knowledge Graph for Greenville Divorce Attorney, Irons & Irons P.A. A person conducting a search for the business name can easily see the law firm’s address, phone, website, images, hours of operation, logo, reviews and driving directions. The user can also submit a new Google review of the business.

Google Local 3-Pack

A Google Business listing is also able to appear in the Google Local 3-Pack. The Google Local 3-Pack is the three business listings at the top of the organic keyword search results that appear on Google Maps. There are only 3 listings – thus why it’s named the Google Local 3-Pack. Check out an example Raleigh Divorce Attorney – The Doyle Law Group in the Google Local 3-Pack. Just like the Google Knowledge Graph, the Google Business listing in the Google Local 3-Pack allows the user to easily find the law firm’s location, website, phone, hours of operation, Google reviews and driving directions.

Google Maps

The nice thing about a Google My Business listing is that it also shows up in Google Maps. Even if your Google My Business listing does not appear in the Google Local 3-Pack, your listing is likely to appear in Google Maps. You can see the Cary Family Lawyers Google My Business listing in Google Maps in this image. The Doyle Law Firm’s Google My Business page allows the user to easily find the law firm’s location, website, phone, hours of operation, Google reviews and driving directions. The business is listed in two places: on the left in list format and in the maps with a red icon next to the business.

Once you claim your listing, Google will ensure that the listing is being claimed by the appropriate business owner by verifying the listing. Google will snail mail a postcard that includes a unique pin number to your business location. Once the postcard is received, log into your Google account and enter the pin number from the postcard into the verification portal of your Google Business listing. Once the pin is entered, your Google My Business listing will be activated and you can make enhancements to your listing.

Google My Business allows you to enter hours of operation, your website, phone, business tagline, logo, photos, and a business, “Story,” which is simply an, “About the Business,” description. Take the time to input these elements. There is unlimited storage so add as much as you can now and make a commitment to add more later too. Remember, this is Google, so the more you information you can lend to Google about your business, the better.

5-star Google Reviews are by far one of the best things you can collecting to significantly improve your digital marketing. It is impossible to have too many 5 star Google Reviews. The more 5-Star reviews the better.  To get more reviews, ask your former clients to write you a 5-star review. Remember to only ask they highly satisfied clients and you don’t want any bad Google reviews. Take a look at Irons & Irons P.A.’s Google reviews.
