Moustaches are sprouting up everywhere these days! We see them on Pinterest, and t-shirts. So what’s the story behind all this moustache marketing? Movember is a moustache growing charity event held during November that raises funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. Men start clean-shaven and raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their moustache-growing efforts. In 2011 alone, over 854,000 individuals helped in raising $126.3 million USD.

How to Grow a Moustache for Movember

This clever campaign has gone viral and has prompted not only celebrity endorsement, but also the sprout of ‘staches in virtually every marketing campaign and product imaginable.

A major reason behind Movember’s growing success is that the movement has evolved into a full foundation and brand with prominent web properties everywhere including: a well-designed website, Twitter, YouTube channel, and Facebook page. Another reason the good cause has spread like wildfire, is because big brands have embraced the moustache and incorporated it into their own marketing efforts. Some great examples of brands using the power of the moustache include:
  • Foster Beer – The beer company has created great images of different moustache styles and are sharing them via their Facebook page
  • Livestrong – The foundation has also spruced up their Facebook page with a stylish ‘stache and promoting Movember events.
  • TOMS – The shoe brand rebranded their Facebook cover photo with fun moustache jokes.

How You Can Support the Cause

    1. Get your ‘stache on!
Even if you can’t grow a moustache of your own, party stores have fake moustaches in fun shapes available for you to sport with pride. You can also embrace the moustache marketing trend by adding a ‘stache to your logo or company mascot. Sharing fun images of employees (or better yet, customers!) showing off a moustache via your social media is sure to generate buzz for your brand and for the cause!
