Trust Us, CSS Layouts Are Better Than Tables
As web designers it goes without saying that we have a passion for the industry. And with our passion, we also have strong opinions about what works… and what doesn’t! It has long been discussed among designers that cascading style sheets (CSS) are more effective than old school HTML tables. While the design experts at TheeDesign don’t agree on much, we are all in unison on this one: CSS is just better!
We decided to put our heads together and make this short list of why we think that way and we are sure you will agree.
1. CSS Page Downloads Are Much Faster
HTML has too many markup tags which inherently make them longer to load. In CSS layouts, these tags are replaced by the faster loading “divs” … and when it comes to speed, less is more!
2. More Search Engine Friendly
By being faster, and not having as many table tags, search engine “spiders” can easily crawl through CSS sites and determine the relevant information. The end result is a higher ranking on sites like Google, Yahoo and MSN Live Search.
3. More Sophisticated
Tables often handcuff even the best designers and to get the most out of their skill-set. CSS allows artists to flourish by allowing greater flexibility to place elements where they want, allowing for a much cooler looking layout.
4. Easier And More Efficient
Site redesign is much easier with CSS as the HTML is separated from the content. By editing the CSS file, designers can easily reconfigure elements without the headache associated with tables.
5. Greater Accessibility
With the speed of technology increasing by the second, more people are accessing the web in different and more varied formats. CSS allows designers to provide different layouts without the restraints that come with tables.
These are just five reasons why we think CSS layouts are better than tables. (Actually, we know it!) Now, we don’t want to offend anyone who disagrees, instead, we just want to expand your horizons!
